2006 SAMPLE: On The Wire - Week 3
QB  RB  WR  TE  K  DEF

Play 'Em
These are either HOT free agents or players who can provide some immediate help. Unless your team is already stacked with talent, you should be considering these guys.
NAMETHE POINT
1)Pennington, Chad
(QB, MIA)
With two straight 300 yard games and an athletic tandem of receivers to catch the ball, we defintiely wouldn't expect Chad to be available on the wire next week. With his recent play, he offers quite a bit of value, and may even be useful as trade bait if you are already set at the QB position. Get him if you can.
2)Grossman, Rex
(QB, HOU)
People close to Grossman have always raved about his accuracy, and that accuracy was pretty apparent on Sunday as he connected for 289 yards and four TD strikes. Most impressive were the two long passes he has thrown to Bernard Berrian in each of the first 2 weeks. If you need help at QB, Grossman could turn out to be a nice option.
3)Carr, David
(QB, NYG)
Carr got no love in fantasy drafts this summer and may actually be available in many leagues. Carr was a major disappointment last year, but he is off to a fine start in 2006 throwing for over 400 yards and 4 touchdowns (no INTs!) through 2 weeks.
4)Smith, Alex
(QB, SF)
Based upon his last year’s numbers, Smith is likely available in your league. So if you want to bet on his continued development, he’s a guy you can get for cheap who has some nice early season match-ups.
5)Walter, Andrew
(QB, )
Actually, you might want to avoid all Oakland quarterbacks, but if Art Shell can find a way to protect this guy, the Raiders do have some nice talent at the WR position. Brooks is supposed to miss 2-4 weeks with a strained pectoral muscle, so it looks like Walter will get a chance to prove himself as the Raider's starter.

Stash 'Em
While you may not want to insert these guys into your starting line-up right away, we believe that they may emerge in the upcoming weeks. So it wouldn't be a terrible idea to stash these guys on your bench if you have the roster space.
NAMETHE POINT
1)Volek, Billy
(QB, SD)
It is no secret that the Titans would like to move Volek. San Diego has been a rumored destination, but it wouldn't surprise us at all to see a team like the Chiefs or the Raiders (who suddenly find that they have a need at the QB position) to end up with him. If he does move to a favorable fantasy situation, wouldn't it be great to already have him on your fantasy squad?
2)Leinart, Matt
(QB, AZ)
Leinart is just about as NFL ready as a rookie quarterback could possibly be. He comes from a pro style offense (at USC) and he just has the feel of a winner. He is playing behind the often-injured Kurt Warner, and if he did get a chance to play, he would have the luxury of throwing to the league's best WR duo in Boldin and Fitzgerald. We normally wouldn't recommend a rookie QB, but Leinart could easily turn out to be the exception to the rule.
3)Young, Vince
(QB, TEN)
Young is going to play. That much is obvious. After Collins was pulled from the game in Week 2 for being ineffective against San Diego, Vince came in and completed 7 of 19 passes, including his first NFL touchdown. He also chipped in 24 rushing yards on five carries. He may not light it up right away, but from a fantasy perspective, Young may offer good value for his rushing ability.
4)Cutler, Jay
(QB, CHI)
Listen up Jake Plummer owners. The city of Denver is already calling for Cutler to take over the reigns in Denver, and with the way that Jake played through 2 weeks, it’s no wonder. If Plummer doesn’t raise the level of his game, Cutler may actually get a shot sooner rather than later. Cutler has great arm strength and could add a vertical element to the Broncos passing game that actually makes him somewhat attractive from a fantasy point of view.
5)Schaub, Matt
(QB, HOU)
Schaub is playing behind the injury-prone Michael Vick, though many believe that he has the skill set to be starting for many other NFL teams. If Vick does go down, Schaub is a more than capable back-up who has the ability to put up some pretty attractive fantasy numbers.
6)Romo, Tony
(QB, DAL)
Word out of Dallas is that Coach Parcells is very fond of back-up Tony Romo. In fact, Dallas recently signed Romo to a contract that was worth "more than back-up money." Bledsoe seems liek he has quieted some of the Romo talk for now with a solid week 2 showing.
